Creating an inviting atmosphere in hotel spaces is essential for attracting guests and ensuring their comfort. One of the most effective ways to achieve this transformation is through the use of elegant ceramic pieces. These unique items can enhance the aesthetic appeal of any hotel, making it feel more luxurious and welcoming.

I was honored to create a handmade vase for each guest room at the Hilton Signia in downtown Atlanta next to the Mercedes Benz Stadium. The hotel wanted to feature a local artist, featuring the magnolia design honoring Atlanta, Georgia and the newly created the hotel sits on, Magnolia Drive. An elegant gold decal was created by me and printed in gold. The decal was then fired on at about 600 degrees Fahrenheit or cone 018 in pottery language. That means each piece was fired three times. First in a bisque fire, then glazed in white, and lastly in the decal firing. The project lasted about a year and I created about 100 vases every month. Fortunately, making vases is my favorite piece to make. I also enjoy the

production aspect and streamlining the process over time. Here are some process pictures.

Notably the shrinkage factor of clay is visible top right. From thrown and trimmed, to bisque, to glaze fire, the object shrinks significantly. Officially it is about 12-15%, yet it looks more dramatic in the picture.
